Days after Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele gave December as release month for her film Everybody Loves Jenifa, she has announced December 13 as the film’s release date. The upcoming film is the latest instalment in her Jenifa series.
In a teaser video shared by the filmmaker on Instagram, the date announcement is preceded by a contest between cast members of A Tribe Called Judah, Akindele’s box office conquering film and those to star in Everybody Loves Jenifa.
As a result, the video is filled with famous faces from Nollywood and from social media skits, including those of Stan Nze, Patience Ozokwor, Layi Wasabi, and Timini Egbuson.
Captioned “THE BATTLE OF TWO CHAMPIONS!!! Who will emerge victorious? Get ready for the ultimate showdown!,” the video suggests that a sequel to A Tribe Called Judah is also in the works.
As the cast members of both films argue over which film gets released in cinemas this December, Funke Akindele shows up, dressed as the lead character from her another one of series of films, Omo Ghetto. “You all want to fight right?” she says before throwing down a rope.
A tug of war contest begins, which the larger Everybody Loves Jenifa team wins handily. The December 13 release date is then displayed.
From the video, it appears Everybody Loves Jenifa will feature Nancy Isime, Lateef Adedimeji, Olayode Juliana, Tobi Makinde, Layi Wasabi, Omowumi Dada, Bisola Aiyeola, and other well-known faces in Nigerian video entertainment.
