Nollywood filmmaker, Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Creative Academy has announced a collaboration with Seme City, a project by the Republic of Benin. Named Seme City Film Lab, the project is intended to empower filmmakers in the country.
The announcement came on social media via the Instagram handles of Mo Abudu and the EbonyLife Film Academy: “Calling all talented Screenwriters and Producers in Benin Republic and beyond—this is your moment! What if your passion for storytelling could take you further than you ever imagined? This is your chance to be part of something bigger.”
The statement continued: “Our program nurtures young talents with a focus on promoting female participation while introducing compelling stories that highlight the rich cultures and diverse locations of Benin.”
Aspiring filmmakers can register for the programme online, as applications are open until December 20. To apply, applicants are required to provide personal information, academic qualifications, and industry experience. A sample of written work, a CV, and a 30-second video introduction are also required.
The programme will take place both virtually and physically in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Successful applicants must be available to travel to Benin Republic for in-person sessions. The programme will, however, not be responsible for travel and accommodation expenses during physical sessions.
Supported by the Lagos State Government through Lagos State Creative Industry Initiative, under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, EbonyLife Creative Academy has existed since 2019.
The academy offers “free practical short courses, designed by industry experts, across all aspects of filmmaking and media content production, for both aspiring as well as industry experts looking to expand or advance their skillset.”
