The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) of South Africa is seeking candidates to serve in its council.
According to a post on the council’s Instagram page, Gayton McKenzie, the country’s minister of sports, arts, and culture invites the public and the film sector to propose and recommend candidates for the NFVF Council.
In the statement released, McKenzie says potential nominees are required to possess a broad understanding and experience in the field of film industry and also bring specialised skills that will enhance the Council’s effectiveness. These skills include managerial and financial expertise, legal knowledge, and fundraising nous.
The chosen council members will be remunerated in accordance with South Africa’s National Treasury guidelines.
Vacant CEO seat
The NFVF is also looking for a new Chief Executive Officer. The body, in an Instagram post a few days before the aforementioned one, says it’s out to appoint ” a dynamic leader to drive the growth of South Africa’s film and video industry”. In a publicly available document calling for applications, the NFVF says the appointee will be required to “maintain and improve the financial value creation of the NFVF”.
At the moment, the CEO seat is occupied in an acting capacity by erstwhile head of human resources, Thobela Mayinje.
She assumed the position in April 2023, following the resignation of the body’s last substantial CEO, Makhosazana Khanyile. At the time, the NFVF said Khanyile, who resigned a year before the end of the role’s standard 5-year term contract, was leaving to “pursue other opportunities”.
The new CEO will be in charge of leading and implementing the NFVF’s strategies and establishing relationships with stakeholders, among other responsibilities. The ideal candidate is expected to have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in management, having spent at least 5 years working as an executive in the public sector.
Whoever is eventually appointed can expect a salary of between R1.8m and just over R2.2m per annum.
The NFVF Council is a critical body responsible for steering the strategic direction of the foundation and ensuring that it fulfills its mandate to promote the growth of the South African film industry. Nominations for the council must be submitted via email by August 31.
The CEO will report to the Council. Applications for that position are to be sent in by 25 August.
