In a move to strengthen film collaboration between South Africa and the Netherlands, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and the Netherlands Film Fund (NFF) have announced Thuthuka, a co-development scheme called Thuthuka.
In a post announcing the subject, The NFVF said the scheme “aims to support projects that are potentially of high cinematographic quality and interest to cinema audiences in both countries as well as to international cinema audiences”.
The scheme’s application portal is now open, with a closing date set for October 14. Target projects for the scheme are feature films (of more than 80 minutes), feature-length documentaries, live-action films, and animated films.
Thuthuka scheme is open to established co-production teams based in the Netherlands or South Africa, consisting of a producer and writer. Applications must be submitted in English. They must include detailed project information, CVs, and company documentation.
With an annual budget of up to €80,000, the scheme will support two projects per year, one from South Africa and one from the Netherlands, with each project receiving €40,000. The grant will cover script development, individual script coaching, and workshops, with the goal of producing a full script, pitch book, and applying for production support.
In evaluating projects, NFF and NFVF representatives will be checking creative value, viability, and target audience. More information on eligibility criteria for Thuthuka is provided on the NFVF website.
