Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan is set to bring his 2009 movie The Figurine (Araromire) to YouTube, giving audiences the opportunity to rewatch the film on the platform.
“Uncover the secrets of The Figurine (Araromire), a cinematic masterpiece that swept the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards with 10 nominations and 5 wins,” Afolayan said in an Instagram post as he announced the film’s YouTube release.
Viewers can watch the film by streaming it exclusively on YouTube via @kapstream_tv. “You want to experience that nostalgic feeling? “The Figurine” will be streaming exclusively on YouTube via @kapstream_tv,” Afolayan added.
Released in 2009, The Figurine, tells the story of two friends who stumble upon a mystical sculpture in an abandoned forest shrine while serving at a National Youth Service Corps camp. One of them decides to take the artwork home, unaware that it is a relic of the goddess ‘Araromire’. Unknown to them, the sculpture brings seven years of good fortune to those who encounter it, followed by seven years of misfortune.
As the friends’ lives begin to transform, they achieve remarkable success and wealth as businessmen. However, their fortunes take a dramatic turn for the worse after the seven-year mark, setting in motion a chain of events that will change their lives forever.
The film was written by Kemi Adesoye, while Kunle Afolayan took on multiple roles, producing, directing, and starring in the film as one of the lead characters. The film’s cast also includes Ramsey Nouah, Omoni Oboli, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Tosin Sido, Tobe Oboli, Kate Adepegba, Muraina Oyelami, Wale Adebayo, Ombo Gogo Ombo, Yomi Fash Lanso, Jide Kosoko, and Lola Maja.
The Figurine got ten nominations at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won five awards including the award for The Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Ramsey Nouah, amongst others.
In a recent move, Kunle Afolayan also released his 2016 film The CEO on his YouTube channel last month.
