The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) has officially opened submissions for its 2025 edition, inviting filmmakers from across the continent. The festival will take place under the theme Indigenous to Global: Cultural Wealth to Global Prosperity.
AFRIFF announced this on its Instagram account, saying in a post: “Submit your films and share your story to the world and be a part of the journey to celebrate creativity, culture and cinematic excellence on Africa’s biggest film stage. We can’t wait to see your work!”
Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their works, spanning various genres, styles and formats, to be considered for the festival. Submissions must be made online via the application portal, with foreign language works requiring English subtitles. A concise and complete press kit is also mandatory. “Only projects produced within the past calendar year are eligible for consideration,” says the organisers.
All entries will be viewed by the selection committee/programming teams. Festival selections will be announced in October and all entrants notified by email. Selected films will be posted on the AFRIFF website.
The festival does not pay rental/screening fees for submitted works in competition. However, the festival jury and special guests will present awards to films selected as best in their category at the festival’s Globe Awards ceremony.
Founded by Chioma Ude, AFRIFF also concluded its awards ceremony recently, which held at the Lagos’s Oriental Hotel on November 10. The festival has formed partnerships with organizations like Afreximbank through its Creative Africa Nexus program.
