According to recently released data, Ajosepo and Bad Boys: Ride or Die are the two box office winners for the first half of 2024. The data, which covers January 1 to June 30, was provided by Comscore and published in Nile Media’s “Half-Year Publication”.
The fourth film in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-fronted franchise, Bad Boys: Ride or Die took the top spot overall and for Hollywood productions, grossing ₦63,342,270 in its opening week. At the end of the period covered, that figure had grown to ₦319,368,869.
For Nollywood, Ajosepo, a comedy drama directed by Kayode Kasum, was the top grosser and best performing film released for cinemas. It opened its account with just over ₦32m, and, by the end of the period under review, had made ₦256,627,189 at the box office.
Ajosepo, at over 69,000, had more ticket admissions than Bad Boys, which came in at 68,898 ticket admissions. But neither film was the best performer in that regard. That honour goes to Beast Of Two Worlds (Ajakaju), which had over 72,000 ticket admissions. On the revenue list, Ajakaju sits at number 3 with ₦252,801,675.
The rest of the films in the top 10 are Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (₦245,878,075), Dune: Part Two (₦184,480,280), The Beekeeper (₦169,629,481), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (₦168,760,911), Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (₦157,096,847), Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (₦141,651,510), and All Is Fair In Love (₦132,020,689).
Bad Boys: Ride or Die is directed by Adil & Bilall and written by Chris Bremner and Will Beall. In this entry, the two cops played by Smith and Lawrence attempt to clear the name of a late police captain linked to drug trafficking.
Ajosepo was written by Dare Olaitan and Stephen Okonkwo. It follows a couple whose wedding is threatened by the revelation of family secrets. It stars Yemi Solade, Ronke Oshodi, Timini Egbuson, and Mike Afolarin.
