Nigerian actor Jide Awobona has said he is one of the big actors in Nigeria. He was speaking to the BBC ahead of a yet to be released film shot in the UK.
Speaking of the film, which the BBC says was shot in Essex and Suffolk, Awobona praised the production staff and the location. “The production crew did a good, getting us the right locations that the script described—and the scrapyard scene couldn’t have been shot anywhere else.
“The scrapyard was actually a very beautiful place and I couldn’t have imagined a place like that in the United Kingdom—it was a lot of fun for me. Everyone who works there were so welcoming and warm and it was a beautiful experience and I really want to go back there again—I can’t forget that scrapyard.”
The BBC interview comes days after the actor shared a behind the scenes video of the shoot on Instagram. In the video, he added a jokey text: “This one you are now filming with oyinbo people, you go fit do Nollywood again like this?” He added a caption: “I am an actor, period…No prefix, no suffix.”
In the interview, the BBC mentions that the actor will be hoping his nearly 1m followers on Instagram help the new film become successful “by flocking to cinemas when it comes out”. The BBC then quotes the man on the subject of his greatness: “I have a lot of fans who love my craft. I am trying to be humble but I am one of the great actors in Nigeria”.
Fans of the actor will next see him in the upcoming Yoruba epic feature Lisabi, which is scheduled for release on September 27 on streaming platform Netflix.
