The 8th Annual Broadcast and Digital Media Convention is set for October 8 at the Swakopmund Legacy Hotel, Namibia. The theme for the event is “Broadcasting and Content Publishing in the AI-Infused Digital Ecosystem”.
Hosted by the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and organised by the Southern Africa Broadcasting Association (SABA) in collaboration with Broadcast Media Africa, the convention is “a dynamic platform for showcasing the latest innovations in broadcast and digital media technologies,” says a statement from the organisers.
Some of the guests expected at the event include Deputy Managing Director of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, Maurice Herbert Mugisha; South African director Brett Michael Innes; and CEO of ZImpapers Group, Pikirayi Deketeke.
Some of the themes to be discussed include AI, ML and blockchain technologies and impact of broadcasting services in Africa; public service broadcasting in Africa: delivering quality public service content; the future of advertising on television. Another subject to be discussed is the optimising of digital terrestrial broadcasting based on reliable regional infrastructure.
Speaking about the event, Director General of NBC and President of SABA, Stanley Similo, said, “The future of television is filled with exciting changes and opportunities. As we convene at the 8th Broadcast and Digital Media Convention – Africa 2024 in Swakopmund, it’s evident that embracing adaptation and innovation will be key to thriving in this new era.”
Similo added that it is important for the industry to adopt data-driven strategies and to invest in cutting-edge technology. “The road ahead is dynamic and challenging, but prepared people will find it incredibly rewarding,” he said.
To highlight the benefit of the event, the organisers say, “Policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders will engage in dialogue to shape policies that foster growth and that supports innovation and sustainable development in the broadcasting and digital media sectors.”
