The sisters who make up the duo Oiza and Meyi (stylised as Oiza x Meyi) will make their feature film debut in the Prime Video project Say Who Die. The film is directed by Paul Utomi and written and produced by Lani Aisida.
The pair found fame on social media a few years ago when videos in which the sisters sang went viral. Not long after, fans of the sisters discovered their mother was Eugenia Abu, a popular 1990s newscaster who is also a writer.
According to a statement, the film is a “dark comedy” about a pair of twins, Odion and Omon, played by the sisters. Odion Ighalo, says the statement, is “a street-smart twin pulled between her sister’s dangerous ties to the criminal underworld and the fractures of her dysfunctional family. With a sharp blend of suspense, humor, and drama, the film explores survival, betrayal, and identity in a world where loyalty is fragile and choices bear lasting consequences”.
Speaking about her debut Nollywood role, Oiza said it was “challenging and deeply personal”. She added that “the misunderstood person, the outcast, people dealing with comparison or the weight of protecting siblings will really connect with this story.”
Utomi, an actor who has made the foray into directing, said the filming process was gratifying. “What excites me the most is working with a talented group of individuals who genuinely cared about the project. Hopefully, all their hard work pays off.”
Aisida, who also wrote the story, took elements from his own family in writing the screenplay. The characters played by Oiza and Meyi are named after his late twin aunties, said. “The story explores the chaos of our realities, from dysfunctional families to misunderstood generations to survival instincts,” he added. “While heightened, these are stories that truly exist in our neighborhoods, told with raw honesty and emotional depth.”
Say Who Die will be released on Prime Video on 29 August. A private premiere will take place in Lagos on the same day.
