The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) has announced a call for applications for international bursaries in film and television postgraduate studies.
According to the NFVF, the bursary programme aims to “build capacity by upskilling film & TV professionals for global competitiveness through its support of qualifying applicants for overseas studies which are not offered in South African tertiary institutions.”
Successful applicants will receive a bursary capped at R280,000, inclusive of tuition and living expenses, for the 2025 academic year.
To be eligible, applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents, have a good academic record, demonstrate a need for financial assistance, and be enrolled at an accredited overseas tertiary institution for full-time postgraduate studies.
The NFVF has outlined specific qualifying criteria, including the requirement that applicants must apply six months before the course starts and that funding will only be granted to courses that are not available in South Africa.
Applications must be accompanied by a detailed motivation stating why the applicant should be awarded a bursary, along with all supporting documents as indicated in the online application form. The deadline for applications is April 7.
How to Apply
To apply, interested applicants are encouraged to register and complete the online application form, accessible via the organisation’s website.
The NFVF added that failure to submit all required documentation will result in automatic disqualification. It noted that all applicants are also responsible for notifying the NFVF of any changes to their contact details to ensure timely communication regarding their application.
