Two Netflix productions, Lisabi: The Uprising and Seven Doors, have topped the list of nominees ahead of the AMVCA 2025 ceremony. The full list, across 27 categories, was announced during a special broadcast across Africa Magic channels.
Now in its 11th edition, the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has become arguably the premier awards ceremony for film and TV in Africa, lending its nominees and eventual winners prestige. This year, at this stage, the bulk of that prestige is on two projects backed by streaming giant Netflix. Lisabi, a film of two parts, has earned 10 nominations. Seven Doors, a series, has also earned 10 nominations.
Both projects will do battle, as they are both up for Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Indigenous Film among other categories. Other films to receive multiple nominations include House of Ga’a and Farmer’s Bride.
In addition to the competitive categories, winners will also be named for the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trailblazer Award, both of which honour individual contributions to Africa’s film and TV industry.
Voting is now officially open and will run until May 4. The grand ceremony will take place on May 10 in Lagos, Nigeria. A live broadcast will convey the happenings at the ceremony to viewers across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
