Nigerian producer Mo Abudu has announced the upcoming release of two projects headed to Apple TV. No release date has been provided yet but both films share a theme of addressing mental health problems.
Upon release of the films, Her Perfect Life and Iyawo Mi (My Wife), Abudu’s filmmaking persona would be expanded, as she is credited as writer and director for both films. Previously, she has been known in the Nigerian film industry as one of its biggest producers.
“This story is incredibly close to my heart,” she posted in an online note about Iyawo Mi. “Writing and directing this film allowed me to explore a powerful and emotional journey about mental health in Nigeria.
According to Abudu, the synopsis for Iyawo Mi is: “Kunle’s world turns upside down when he comes home to find his wife, Eniola, in the midst of a terrifying mental health crisis, threatening those around her. Desperate, he takes matters into his own hands, leading to tragic consequences.”
The film stars Adedimeji Lateef, Bolaji Ogunmola, Segun Arinze, and others.
The second picture, Her Perfect Life, stars South Africa’s Pearl Thusi. The film, said, Abudu, “explores the life of Onajite Johnson-Ibrahim, a woman who seems to have it all—a successful career and a loving family—but behind the perfect image lies a painful truth.”
In an Instagram post of her own, Thusi wrote that she is “thrilled to announce that Her Perfect Life is coming soon to Apple TV!” The actress reserved praise for Abudu, dubbing the Nigerian filmmaker, “a brave pioneer who continues to strive for perfection. You are a true inspiration!”.
Thusi will be leading a cast that includes Joseph Benjamin, Omowunmi Dada, Mary Lazarus, and Uzo Osimkpa.
Both films share executive producers well known in the business and technology space: Bola Atta, Adewale Tinubu, Shola Akinlade, and Nonso Okpala.
