Nigerian filmmaker Jade Osiberu will be releasing a new film in December. The news came via the director’s social media accounts earlier today.
In an Instagram post captioned “Hey people, I’m back,” she explains why she has been quiet. Apparently, she has been making “the most beautiful, heartwarming Christmas film ever”.
She continued: “It was such an honour to work some actors I have admired for years. Some actors who you may or may not know and some of the biggest names in Afrobeats cos what’s a ‘Detty December’ film without Afrobeats?”
As she spoke, the video was intercut with clips showing known Nollywood faces like Richard Mofe Damijo, Teniola Aladese, and Shaffy Bello. Music stars Ayra Star, Ladipoe, and Adekunle Gold also turn up in the video, solidifying Osiberu’s comment about her upcoming film’s Afrobeats angle.
Christmas in Lagos follows four friends as they navigate friendship, love, and loss during the holiday season, with a star-studded cast including Teniola A. Aladese, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, and Shaffy Bello. Afrobeats heavyweights Ayra Starr, Adekunle Gold and Ladipoe also make special on-screen appearances, adding to the film’s excitement.
As founder of Greoh Studios, Osiberu has established herself as a writer, director, and producer in Nollywood. Her feature film projects include Isoken, Sugar Rush, Brotherhood, and Gangs of Lagos. The last was the first Nigerian Original to stream exclusively on Prime Video.
