Back in 2016, Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan released The CEO, a film centred around the titular role at a multinational outfit. At the time, the film premiered at the cinemas. With the rise of streaming, the film is now heading to YouTube. Date: February 7.
Afolayan shared a trailer to the project on his Instagram page: “Get ready for a thrilling ride!! Five African Players, One Intense week and a one ultimate goal – The CEO? What happens when ambitions take a dark turn? Find out this Friday on @kapstream_tv.”
In the film, five African business leaders embark on a journey to secure the top spot at a multinational corporation. During the retreat in which one would be chosen to lead the company, contestants start dying off, turning the tale into a whodunit.
Directed and produced by Kunle Afolayan, The CEO, features African music royalty Angelique Kidjo, Wale Ojo, Lala Akindoju, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Hilda Dokubo, Nico Panagio, Fatym Layachi, and Aurelie Eliam. The screenplay was penned by Tunde Babalola. Dawid Pietkiewicz was in charge of cinematography.
Since the first coming of The CEO, Afolayan has helmed several projects including Citation, Swallow, and Anikulapo. Anikulapo started out as a film but has attracted a series as sequel. A second season of the project has been commissioned by Netflix, following the success of the first season.
According to the director, the new season, filmed in Ghana and in Oyo state, Nigeria, will explore slave trade, as a character attempts to rescue a sibling from European merchants.
