My Fairytale Wedding, a three-part Nollywood romantic comedy by Africa Magic, will have its first instalment released later in the year. The news was first announced at the concluded MIP Africa event.
Directed by Dimeji Ajibola and produced by Chichi Nworah, My Fairytale Wedding will star several recognisable faces from Nigeria’s film industry, including Ramsey Nouah, Carolina Hutchings, Ini Edo, Kanayo O. Kanayo, and Daniel Etim Effiong.
The story follows a 29-year-old woman who turns to the spiritual power of “kanyanmata”, a love potion, to attract love. Uzor Arukwe (recently seen in Criminal) and Lilian Esoro will play lead characters. The project is executively produced by several parties, including Chinenye Chichi Nworah (of Shanty Town), as well as actresses Ini Edo and Carolyna Hutchings.
According to a statement from MultiChoice, the show “delivers love, laughter and a sprinkle of magic and offers a refreshing reimagining of classic fairy tales, infused with African heart and soul and set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos, Nigeria”.
“The film focuses on the lives of three women, each navigating unique challenges in their personal quest for happiness,” said Busola Tejumola, MultiChoice West Africa’s head of content and channels.
“In conceptualising and producing My Fairytale Wedding, we wanted to bring something fresh and authentic to the screen—something that resonates deeply with our audience while offering a fun and light-hearted take on the challenges of love in the 21st century.
“By blending modern realities with a touch of magical realism, we’ve created a story that’s both relatable and enchanting—all while staying true to our African roots.”
