Nollywood filmmaker and director, Kemi Adetiba, has announced that King of Boys 3 will hit cinemas in Nigeria on December 25.
Adetiba made the announcement on her Instagram page, where she shared a message with fans of the project. The post read: “KOB Army…. ARISE!!! It’s time…. We MOOOOOOOVE. Signed: Your General. #KOB3 #TheBeginningOfTheEnd #DettyDecember25 #KAV25.”
Adetiba made the post on her 45th birthday, with the post a teaser showing an incoming call from the film’s lead star, Sola Sobowale. In the video, Sola declares: “I, Sola Sobowale, believe in you. I trust you. Let’s go and show them, big time!”
The director had begun pre-production for the project earlier in 2023, teasing fans with glimpses of the film’s development. She also hinted at the introduction of new characters, while retaining some familiar faces from the previous instalments.
The upcoming film is the third chapter in the King of Boys saga, which follows the story of Eniola Salami, a powerful businesswoman and philanthropist who is embroiled in a high-stakes power struggle.
The original film, released in 2018, garnered widespread critical acclaim for its narrative and stellar performances. It was also commercially successful. Its sequel, a series titled King of Boys: The Return of the King, premiered on Netflix in 2021 to similar fanfare.
The original film featured Sobowale as Eniola Salami, alongside Nse Ikpe-Etim, Jide Kosoko, Adesua Etomi, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Paul Sambo, Osas Ajibade Ighodaro, Toni Tones, Sani Muazu, Demola Adedoyin, Akin Lewis, and Nigerian rappers Illbliss and Reminisce.
Adetib’s feature film debut as a director was The Wedding Party, a romantic comedy produced by Mo Abudu. It was screened on September 8, 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the City-to-City Spotlight section.
