Last year, Netflix series Supacell was the most searched film in Kenya. That’s according to Google Search data. The UK-set series stars Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Josh Tedeku, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, and Eddie Marsan. It has been renewed for a second season.
In second place is another Netflix project, Damsel. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the film features Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright. The project was successful around the world and was the most watched film on the streaming platform for the first half of 2024.
The multiple Emmy-winning series Shōgun took the third spot. The Japanese-American series was created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks. Its cast includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, Tommy Bastow, and Fumi Nikaido.
The list has only one Kenyan project: Becky, a Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla production from homegrown Citizen TV. The show is centred around the titular character, a maid who gets caught up in the lives of her employers.
Other projects on the list including The Boys, Becky from Citizen TV, and Dune 2.
